Position Title: Resource Teacher
Employment Type: Full-Time
Start Date: August 18, 2025
Probation Period: Six (6) Months
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday
⏰ Rotating hours between 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary Range:
$50,863 to $68,889 annually
About the Role
The Resource Teacher is a key player in the success of Step by Step’s classrooms. Under the supervision of the Team Leader of Resource, the Resource Teacher supports classroom educators in planning, adjusting, and implementing childcare strategies — especially for children with additional needs.
You are not simply an advisor — you are a mentor, a collaborator, and a hands-on educator who can see the classroom clearly, identify where support is needed, and step in with calm and practical solutions. Whether it's during a busy transition between snack and outdoor play, managing a child with complex needs, or guiding a team through a moment of overwhelm, you help bring clarity, calm, and cohesion.
Key Responsibilities
Mentor and support teaching teams, including up to 16 students and 2 assistants, through real-time classroom dynamics.
Adjust daily planning with flexibility to meet evolving group needs.
Help organize classrooms, build team momentum, and foster shared consistency across teaching teams.
Assist teachers with observations, reflection, and program adjustments to better serve children.
Attend up to 8 annual PD/child-focused meetings to contribute to individualized and program-wide decisions.
Support transitions, routines, and special needs planning (e.g., speech augmentation, sensory needs).
Step in as a teacher when needed to ensure classroom coverage and continuity.
Serve as a key link between the Supervisor of Program Services, the Team Leader of Resource, and front-line educators.
Top Priorities in the First 6 Months
Organize classroom structure and provide consistent routines across teaching teams.
Support team cohesion, ensuring alignment on daily practices and individualized child support.
Build shared accountability for inclusive, respectful, and culturally informed pedagogy.
What Makes This Role Different
You are the right hand to a leadership team that oversees teaching staff in their daily operations.
You’ll be part of a reimagined resource team — one that values clarity, hands-on support, and alignment over excessive meetings.
Onboarding support will be available from a long-serving Resource Teacher who is retiring but remaining on a consultative basis.
You’ll need to be independent yet open to direction, proactive, and solutions-focused — someone who listens, models, and collaborates, not someone who “pontificates.”
Challenges & Opportunities
This role is ideal for someone who:
Is comfortable working year-round (52 weeks) rather than a school-year calendar
Embraces structure but can pivot quickly to meet the needs of children and educators
Builds trust by modeling solutions, not preaching them
Is charismatic, grounded, and hands-on
Listens actively and responds with empathy, especially when a teammate says, “This is really hard right now.”
