The Position:
The Director, Engineering is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, and execution of all engineering and facilities operations in the data centre. This role ensures the availability, reliability, and efficiency of critical infrastructure systems, including electrical, mechanical, and building management systems, while driving innovation and operational excellence. The Director will represent STACK at technical meetings with consultants, contractors, and vendors and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to maintain uptime, meet customer SLA commitments, and support business growth.
Key responsibilities:
- Bring innovative thinking to achieve cost reduction, flexibility, speed and energy efficiency.
- Liaise with customers on technical matters to and develop solutions.
- Develop sales engineering information packs for customer engineering reviews.
- Drive technical input to the consultants designs to meet the needs of our customers.
- Develop concept designs for early customer discussions and consultant briefing.
- Develop masterplanning concepts for new sites, including IT capacity yield and PUE estimations.
- Develop long lead equipment technical documentation, and review vendor proposals.
- Drive updates to internal BOD drawings, schematics and specifications.
- Steer consultants using technical expertise to achieve design, program, or commercial outcomes.
- Review consultant milestone designs against STACK BOD, briefing documents and customer requirements.
- Reduce construction cost by identifying and removing over-engineering or conservatism.
- Manage a small team who’s responsibilities are aligned with your own.
- Research new engineering technologies and trends in the data centre market and power industry. Bring new approaches to the broader engineering team for consideration in future builds.
- Provide technical support to onsite incidents from time to time.
- Assist in design management duties during periods of need.
- Engage with other stakeholders in the business to understand their needs and drivers.
- Work closely with VP, Engineering (APAC) to:-
- review customer designs and engineering requirements
- review procurement initiatives including vendor relationships, technical specifications and keeping up to date with new technology in the market.
- work on cost saving opportunities initiatives across projects in Japan
- Lessons learnt/continuous improvement – ensure lessons are reviewed at the end of each project, and feedback into next phases of design and regional basis of design.
- Lead, coach and engage team members to maximize their performance and potential.

Must-have Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering.
- At least 10 years of experience in construction and/or engineering development, especially in construction project delivery, project controls, risk management, contract administration.
- Data centre experience including detailed knowledge and understanding of data centre design, engineering principals and best practice.
- Technical skills to include 3D Design Tools, BIM process & methodology, 4D/5D design principals.
- Strategic thinking with operational execution focus.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Stakeholder and client management skills.
- Leadership and team development in high-performance environments.
- Continuous improvement and risk management mindset.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Language: Japanese (native), English (fluent)
