Organization/Team Mission

• The mission of Mercari’s Trust & Safety Team is to provide a safe environment to all of our users for each Mercari Group product including the Mercari marketplace and Merpay mobile payments. In particular, we implement anti-fraud measures on a daily basis to protect the monetary assets of our users.

Work Responsibilities

As the person responsible for trust and safety at Mercari, the Head of Trust & Safety (TnS) must demonstrate strong leadership within the team and the entire Group in detecting fraud and establishing preventive measures against fraud. In addition to their work managing teams, formulating strategies, and improving processes, it is crucial for the Head of TnS to stay on top of industry trends and find the best way for the Mercari platform to maintain a high level of trust. They will achieve this by implementing cutting-edge security technologies or establishing rules to prohibit certain items from being listed on our marketplace. Specific work responsibilities include the following: 

Main Work Responsibilities

• Manage teams to properly detect, prevent, and handle incidents of fraud
• Analyze data, assess risks, and create reports related to fraud
• Introduce and implement the latest security technologies such as FIDO Security and 3DS authentication
• Create policies for rulemaking regarding what items are prohibited on the Mercari marketplace
• Draft and implement new measures in response to any changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards
• Establish new systems and improve existing systems to be able to respond to reports and inquiries from users in a quick and appropriate manner
• Work with the customer support teams to detect and deal with fraudulent behavior at an early stage
• Collaborate with and provide support for other teams such as the Security and Policy Planning teams
  
  

Unique Challenges

• Mercari provides a variety of services on a single platform including a C2C and B2C marketplace, code payments, credit cards, and cryptoassets. As a result, you will be able to build experience working on a variety of fraud countermeasures without being limited to work in any specific area. This will allow you to learn what approaches work best according to the characteristics of each service and to broaden your skillset.
• Moreover, Mercari Group is constantly working to develop new businesses and plans anti-fraud measures before launching a new service. This will provide you with the invaluable experience of putting anti-fraud measures into operation. What makes the work of our team uniquely appealing is that you'll be able to take on the challenge of working on the frontlines of anti-fraud measures in a dynamic work environment.
  
  

Qualifications

• Required Experience/Skills
• Have a shared belief in the mission and values of Mercari Group and its various companies
• Have a high level of knowledge and experience regarding fraud and anti-fraud measures (especially interested in people with decision-making experience that involves working directly with management)
• Have skills related to team management and leadership
• Be able to devise policies on anti-fraud measures while thinking about the best balance between different aspects such as risk reduction, customer support costs, user experience, and reputation.
• Preferred Experience/Skills
• Knowledge of and experience related to introducing and implementing the latest security technology such as FIDO Security and 3DS authentication
• Skills related to data analysis and risk assessment
• Skills related to proposing and implementing improvements to platforms
• Knowledge and experience related to prohibited items
• Knowledge and experience related to laws, regulations, and industry standards
• Experience working in an English-language environment
• Language requirements
• Japanese: Proficient (CEFR - C1) required
• English: Independent (CEFR - B2) preferred

業務内容

メルカリのTrust & Safety（TnS）の責任者候補として、不正行為の検出、未然防止策の策定、チーム内およびグループ全体に対するリーダーシップを発揮することが求められます。チームのマネジメントや戦略策定、プロセス改善などの業務に加えて、最新のセキュリティ技術の導入やマーケットプレイスの禁止出品物のルールメイキングなど、業界のトレンドを追い、メルカリのプラットフォームの信頼性を維持するために最善の方法を見つけ出すことが重要です。具体的な業務内容は下記です。 

主な業務内容：

• 不正行為の検出、防止、対応のためのチームマネジメント
• 不正行為に関するデータ分析、リスク評価、報告書の作成
• FIDOセキュリティや3DS認証などの最新のセキュリティ技術の導入、実装
• マーケットプレイスにおける禁止出品物のルールメイキング
• 規制・法令、業界標準の変更に対応した対策の立案、実施
• ユーザーからの報告、問い合わせに迅速かつ適切に対応するための体制構築、改善
