Job Description

Kinkora House Companion, Sleep Away Summer Camp for People with Special Needs & Autism

Kinkora House is a residential camp for adults with intellectual disabilities. We foster a secure and enriching environment that caters to campers with a spectrum of needs and varying levels of independence. As a Kinkora House Companion you are responsible to ensure that the proper support is given to designated campers who require a higher staffing ratio and that all campers have a safe and positive camp experience. Kinkora House Companions are responsible for the daily needs of the campers that are assigned to them and the overall safety and well being of all campers, as well as assisting in animating and participating in program activities such as arts and crafts, swimming, boating, music and more. This position requires a high level of energy, and a willingness to work with adults with intellectual disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure mental and physical safety and well-being of campers
  • Be familiar with the special needs, medical conditions, dietary concerns, and/or behavioral problems of the campers and act according to directions provided by the Camp Medic/parent or guardian.
  • Assist in preparing/animating program
  • Participate in all camp events and programs as needed
  • Be a positive role model to all campers

Profil

Qualifications

  • Minimum 16 years old
  • Clear background check
  • Relevant job or education experience an asset

Terms of employment

  • Report to Kinkora House Directors
  • Full time, 8 week contract + 40 hours paid training during the weeks leading up to summer contract
  • Schedule: 11 days on, 3 days off with an additional 1 day off during the 11 days on.

Pre-camp training will be provided.
