Board Member / Treasurer - Overview

Responsible to oversee all financial management, budgeting, reporting, and financial liaison functions of the organization.

• Supervise and work closely with the bookkeeper / accountant to ensure accurate financial data and reporting.
• Reports to the Chair & Vice Chair and be accountable to the Audit Committee.
• Capable of interacting with all CHRFF Directors and affiliated parties.

Responsibilities

Financial Management/Oversight. 

• Manage and oversee the financial affairs of the CHRFF, including reviewing and approving financial records, tax filings, and managing cash flow.
• Create and maintain systems for ensuring the organization’s ongoing financial solvency and oversee the development of the organizations financial policies.

Reports and Regulatory:

• Knowledge and understanding of the CHRFF’s financial reports and important financial metrics, targets and ratios. 
• Keep the Board apprised of all key financial events, trends and concerns, and their assessment of the organizations fiscal health. 
• Review and ensure financial reporting forms produced by the bookkeeper and making these forms available for the board’s review when applicable.

Budgeting.

• Lead the annual budget process and work closely with certain key parties to produce a logical and relevant budget.
• Present the budget to the CHRFF board for approval and manage any adjustments or changes to the budget.
• Monitor the budget regularly and compare the actual revenues and expenses incurred against the budget. 
• Review the budget results with the board and be prepared to explain and justify all items in the presented statements.

Financial Liaison. 

• Interact with various stakeholders in the Regiment, the CHRFF bookkeeper / accountant, Audit Committee and the CHRFF Board.
• Generally act as the point of contact for all external parties to the CHRFF for financial matters. 
• Translate financial concepts and information for board members who do not have financial backgrounds or substantial financial experience. 
• Learn the particulars of the organizations finances and the applicable laws and be prepared to act as the subject matter expert to the board where appropriate.
• Interact with external experts in relation to the organization’s finances, such as auditors, investment managers or the Canada Revenue Agency.

Support to the Fundraising Committee

• Provide direct report to the fundraising committee by collaborating on fundraising requirements and providing key metrics and financial information.
• Ensure all donors receive the required charitable donation receipts and support the fundraising committee with any donor interaction or specific requests.
