Volunteer Coordinator

The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum is seeking a dynamic Volunteer Coordinator to cultivate and grow our dedicated volunteer program. This role plays a vital part in preserving and sharing the stories of our Nation’s oldest port, while ensuring our volunteers feel valued, supported, and connected to our nonprofit mission.

What You’ll Do

• Recruit, train, and manage volunteers across departments.
• Foster a rich volunteer experience through programming, recognition events, and strong communication.
• Oversee scheduling and tracking using Volgistics Volunteer Management Software.
• Plan and lead volunteer appreciation events such as the Annual Volunteer Luncheon & Winter Social.
• Support museum events, specialty tours, and interpretive site programs.
• Collaborate with staff across departments to align volunteer efforts with organizational goals.
• Lead shifts in the lighthouse tower, on-site events, and public programs.

What We’re Looking For

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Museum Studies, Public History, Public Services, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Experience: Minimum of three years in a museum or nonprofit setting.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and experience with data management tools.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Comfortable climbing the lighthouse tower, standing for up to 3 hours, and working outdoors in varied conditions.
