Job Description

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The Transplantation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the bone marrow, stem cell and blood transplantation program for MDACC patients:

• Coordinates patient benefits; ensures financial clearance. Arranges or physically couriers donor products.
• Travels nationally and internationally with little notice to courier, monitor and manipulate donor products to ensure viability.
• Maintains donor and recipient confidentiality. Responsible for collection and submission of charges for search process.
• Educates patients and general public regarding the transplantation/search process.

The ideal candidate will be a certified medical technologist with human leukocyte antigen (HLA) experience.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

MUD

Performs searches for matched unrelated donors through national/international registries and maintains status reports.

Maintains search transfers, CT arrivals and pre-collect samples as needed.

Patient Tracking

Schedules patient tests, keeps patients/families updated on donor searches and test results, and arranges admissions.

Collaborates with physicians, department management, data managers and research nurses to complete and document patient care.

Administrative

Completes all required forms (patient updates, form 22, etc) in a timely manner.

Maintains patient/donor correspondence.

Provides lab packs with courier information to SCT processing lab.

EDUCATION

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology or other health care related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Two years of laboratory or human leukocyte antigen (HLA) experience.
