The Amazon JP Pricing and Promotions team is seeking a talented, passionate software development engineer to create feature innovations to improve shopping experience with particular focus on the pricing and promotion offerings challenges for Japanese customers.
The Pricing and Promotions team is part of the greater Japan Store Tech, a global software development group.
As a Software Development Engineer, you will help solve a variety of technical challenges and work with a team of extremely talented engineers. Given that we explore new and exciting areas, you will play an active role in translating business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables and build quick prototypes or proofs of concept. You will help invent new features, design systems, develop and deploy highly scalable and reliable distributed services. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and given the size of our initiatives, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that, frankly, haven’t been solved at scale before. Key job responsibilities
On a daily basis, you will have the opportunity to:
- Design distributed, multi-tiered systems ranging from small-to-large scale.
- Own the full software lifecycle from development, testing, documentation, deployment, monitoring, continuous improvement and scaling.
- Understanding business goals and create functional requirements and project schedules together with business teams
- Develop new and/or build on existing systems effectively, improving and evolving systems for robustness and high performance
- Lead a team of effective and formidable engineers whilst navigating several development terrains.
- Take ownership for ensuring sanity of architecture, operational excellence and quality and insisting on highest standards while working with other software teams.
A day in the life
As a Senior Software Development Engineer on the JPOP team, your typical day involves:
- Leading technical design discussions for new pricing and promotional features, collaborating with business teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions
- Mentoring team members on distributed systems design and best practices while reviewing their code and architectural proposals
- Monitoring and optimizing the performance of our global services that process millions of pricing and promotional decisions daily
- Working with data scientists to implement and improve ML-powered planning engines and optimization solutions
- Participating in cross-team architecture reviews to ensure our systems integrate effectively with other Amazon services worldwide
- Maintaining and expanding our services' reliability and capabilities as they scale across multiple global marketplaces
- Troubleshooting complex technical issues and implementing improvements to our distributed systems
- Contributing to the evolution of our service architecture to support new business requirements and market expansions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Ability to design and deliver scalable software and knows SOA
- 6+ years professional experience in software development
- Strong Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, object-oriented principles and complexity analysis
- Proficiency in problem-solving and analytic ability
- Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as Java, C++, Java, C, or C#
- Business level English proficiency
