Responsible for typing and transcribing autopsy protocols, manuscripts and correspondence. Prepares basic reports, maintains computerized files and performs related duties as required. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

 

  • Transcribes complex forensic data from dictation equipment generated during autopsies by Medical Examiners and performs quality assurance.
  • Prepares various forensic documents, manuscripts and correspondence utilizing a personal computer.
  • Types moderately complex letters/memos, prepares cremation waivers and burial transit permits regularly.
  • Develops and maintains files.
  • Oversees the State Death Registration and enters all information on preliminary and amended death certificates, via TxEver.
  • Scans completed cases and records into electronic system.
  • Answers telephone, routes calls and takes messages utilizing some discretion.
  • Assists with purchasing supplies and equipment and receiving in items from Lawson, utilization of Onbase.
  • Responds to general questions and complaints regarding department or work.
  • Aids in answering questions from bereaved family members.
  • Sends preliminary exam findings and final reports to the appropriate Justice of the Peace and oversees the inquiry database of those requesting final reports.
  • Assists with deposition requests as needed.
  • Calls family members post exam to ensure that bodies are released in a timely manner.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. 

High School Diploma/GED; Two years job related experience. Experience in transcription and/or using Lawson/Onbase preferred. Ability to transcribe. Ability to accurately enter data and file information. Strong computer and typing skills. Strong verbal and written communication, organizational skills, interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials. Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

 

SALARY RANGE: $20.60 - $24.81 hourly based on qualifications

CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position
