Safety Analysis Engineer 2 - Nuclear Fuel Services - Erwin, TN
Summary Description of Job:
Provide safety analysis support (radiological or chemical) for the preparation, review and/or recommendation for approval of safety analysis documents associated with design, construction, startup, and operation of enriched uranium processing and support operations. Participate in team evaluations and support preparation of safety basis documentation for new and/or modified plant processes, systems and components, including items relied on for safety (IROFS) and safety related equipment (SRE). Interface with regulatory agencies regarding 10 CRF 70, Subpart H, issues including integrated safety analysis (ISA), safety basis documentation, IROFS, and management measures.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of Job:
1. Participate in ISA teams that use process hazard analysis methods to identify potential accident scenarios and safety controls.
2. Perform accident consequence analyses, including identification of source terms and safety hazards.
3. Develop and/or use computer models and other calculation methods to perform accident consequence analyses and dose/exposure consequence determinations.
4. Perform risk analysis using established NFS methods and identify the IROFS needed to prevent or mitigate potential accident scenarios.
5. Develop/revise safety analysis reports and safety basis documentation for new and modified processes, systems, and components.
6. Review work requests, procedures, and drawings detailing proposed process changes and determine affects to the safety basis.
7. Conduct field design verification; hazard analysis walkdowns; and periodic inspections/audits/assessments.
8. Perform technical/independent reviewer responsibilities in accordance with applicable program documents and procedures.
9. Support preparation and/or revision of ISA summary documents.
10. Perform or participate in failure investigations for failed/degraded IROFS and management measures.
11. Respond to regulatory requests and participate in regulatory discussions in defense of safety basis documentation.
Educational Requirements of Job:
B.S. Degree in Science, Engineering or technical discipline. M.S. preferred.
Experience Requirements:
Six to eight years' experience in safety analysis is required to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations, requirements, and analyses. Post-graduate studies may substitute for some work experience.
Pay: $75,000 - $125,000
The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $75,000 and $125,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
