About Us

The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry provides outstanding education within a research- intensive, distributed learning environment, where tomorrow's physicians, dentists and other scholars learn to be socially responsible leaders in the advancement of human health. The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry is the largest Faculty on the Western University campus and employs over 2,000 part-time and full-time faculty and over 1,500 staff.

The Centre for Studies in Family Medicine (CSFM) is an interdisciplinary team of investigators, research, and administrative staff recognized nationally and internationally as leaders in family medicine and primary health care research. The CSFM's research is based on the principles of patient-centred care, and takes place in three contexts: clinical care; the community; and the health care system.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will apply their expertise and knowledge to multiple national, provincial and regional research projects, and carry out or oversee research under the general direction of a principal investigator. The incumbent will assist in training staff and students in the Mathews Lab and in resolving issues that arise in the research environment.

The incumbent will develop research timelines and project plans, collect and analyze data, and produce knowledge translation products, including preparing academic papers and presenting results as well as final reports to various stakeholders as required.

Qualifications

Education:

• Master's degree in health policy, applied health services research, or related field

Experience:

• At least 10 years of research experience in health services field
• Familiarity with the health care system in general and primary care specifically, and researchers in Atlantic Canada

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

• Demonstrated working knowledge of the primary care system in Canada, with a special emphasis on Atlantic Canada
• Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives on national projects
• Ability to complete detailed systematic reviews, academic papers, presentations and reports
• Advanced skills in software and applications used to produce and analyze research data (NVivo, SPSS, Covidence)
• Advanced qualitative research skills including preparing and applying coding templates across multiple provinces and analysis of node reports
• Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy;
• Familiarity with University research policies and practices
• Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
• Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
• Ability to work in a fluid and evolving work environment with changing deadlines and priorities
• Ability to work independently and maintain direction and focus through proactive planning and organized approaches to work
• Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
• Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve research project goals
• Demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
• Experience with transcription and transcription software
• Experience with development of surveys in Qualtrics
