Quality assurance (QA) test engineers within VGM HOMELINK play a crucial role in ensuring software reliability, security, and overall quality. Successful QA professionals will be immersed in software development opportunities, with various ways to progress roles pending experience, knowledge, and skills. Successful QA Test Engineers possess the skills to find and document issues found within applications they are testing. Additionally, they will demonstrate exceptional customer service skills to meet team, committee, and business needs. QA Test Engineers are required to complete and pass the ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL).

The QA Test Engineer I position within VGM HOMELINK is a mid-level position on the QA team. The ideal candidate will have completed a position as a Junior QA Test Engineer, a field-related internship, or equivalent experience in the various responsibilities necessary to be successful in this role. This position supports HOMELINK by collaborating with stakeholders and team members to deliver high quality results.

Working Location: On-Site in Waterloo, Iowa or hybrid

Work Hours Classification: Full-Time, 8am-5pm CST, Monday-Friday

Responsibilities/Duties Of The Job

The QA Test Engineer I should demonstrate the ability to contribute by providing quality collaboration between team members and key stakeholders. This role demonstrates a high understanding of quality assurance testing necessary to perform test scenarios and other tasks. Testing will include web applications, mobile apps, or any other software products. ISTQB and/or other tester scheme certification is necessary to conduct testing at the level needed. QA Test Engineer I is expected to continue to perform foundational elements of Jr QA Test Engineer responsibilities. This position will help the QA Test Engineer I advance to QA Test Engineer II or Senior QA Test Engineer.

  • Create and execute detailed functional, regression and usability test cases according to the Acceptance Criteria and document results
  • Understand business requirements and translate them into test scenarios including elaborate and well thought out edge cases.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with developers and other team members to identify and report defects.
  • Create and execute detailed functional, regression and usability test cases according to the Acceptance Criteria and document results
  • Research, refine and create work items and tasks for entire team understanding
  • Keep TFS up to date on all PBIs, tasks, hours and results
  • Continue to stay in-tune to new industry testing methodologies and tools.
  • Ability to read, understand and write simple test cases in software code.
  • Follows through on issues until appropriately resolved.
  • Participate and lead through test automation efforts-including designing, developing, and maintaining automated test scripts and frameworks.
  • Support risk management activities and implement continuous Test Process Improvement
  • Follows strict confidentiality and HIPAA privacy and security guidelines.

Education/Experience

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and participation in an internship in a related field preferred.
  • ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) at least, or equivalent.
  • Helpful to understand healthcare management, health sciences, or business management or equivalent work experience with quality assurance and process improvement activities and/or data analysis
  • Must comply with continuing education per Company, regulatory, contractual, and accreditation requirements’

  • Knowledge of state and federal healthcare laws and regulations and accreditation standards
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, time management and organizational skills
  • Strong documentation skills and communication skills, particularly in standard operation procedures to successfully operate across multiple departments and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to maintaining a high level of competence in quality assurance, performance improvement and data analysis concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of computer concepts, information systems (e.g., excel formulas, pivot tables, graphs, trendlines, etc.)
  • Effective written/verbal skills.
  • Effective skills at teamwork and team facilitation.
  • Customer service focused.

Physical Requirements

  • Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment
  • Visual abilities to include reading, distance vision and peripheral vision
  • Moving throughout the VGM facilities when needed.
