Looking for a new and exciting opportunity? We are looking for a Project Controls Coordinator to join our team!

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Manager of Electrical Engineer, you will prepare, analyze, monitor, consolidate and coordinate budgets, financial results and other financial documents. You will monitor adherence to correct allocations of costs and report to appropriate parties as required. In this role, you will research, identify and prepare various management-level summary reports, correspondence, analyses and recommendations. You will also provide assistance and financial advice to managers, in support of project development decisions. As the Project Controls Coordinator, you will provide guidance to various staff to ensure accurate budget submissions and financial reporting. Other responsibilities of your role will include:
  • Developing planning systems required to demonstrate how projects will be executed and controlled
  • Analyzing and monitoring project cost and schedule performance ensuring that the projects will achieve planned objectives while minimizing the exposure to risks
  • Coordinating the preparation and development of multi-levelled and multi-disciplined (e.g. involving civil, structural, signaling, track, communication, mechanical etc.) project specific budgets and schedules
  • Preparing project cost estimates, cash flow estimates, business cases, budget change requests and related project documentation; developing project schedules based on input from the project team
  • Preparing and assembling monthly reports, comparing current actual costs with budget costs, comparing current progress with work plan schedules, coordinating the investigation and explanation of variances, and forecasting significant variances and trends through monthly Project Status Reports (PSR) and Departmental Progress Reports (DPR)
  • Maintaining monthly project financial matrix progress report, yearly asset capitalization and nova reports
  • Compiling, interpreting and evaluating cost and schedule information
  • Visiting field sites to ascertain project work progress
  • Developing and using PC applications and scheduling techniques including earned value and trend analysis to track and update project cost and schedule progress; supporting the update of project master schedules on a monthly basis

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Possession of an accounting designation will be considered an asset.
  • You will have comprehensive knowledge of the financial aspects of engineering and construction projects, practices and methods; You will also have knowledge of standard accounting principles required for capital and operating budget preparation.
  • Your application will demonstrate your knowledge of the concepts and practices relating to project controls and project management systems.
  • It will also reveal extensive knowledge of cost engineering and scheduling techniques and your proficiency in the use of computer-based scheduling systems and other computerized applications related to the work (e.g. MS Project, Maximo, SAP, MS Office, etc.)
  • You will have sound judgement; proven analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. You will also have strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Your ability to co-ordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives will be beneficial to you in this role.

  • The Electrical Engineering team operates in a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with in-office collaboration. However, on occasion you will be required to visit work sites based on the assigned work.
