Research Center for Neutrino Science (RCNS) at Tohoku University is conducting the frontier research into extremely rare-phenomena, such as double-beta decay. The newly established Division for Extremely Rare-phenomena Research Technology Development will work in collaboration with Division for Extremely Rare-phenomena Research of Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP) at Osaka University to form the Kamioka Extremely Rare-phenomena and NEutrino-research Laboratory (KERNEL), and promote research into extremely rare-phenomena in collaboration with the community. We invite applications for one Associate Professor who will be responsible for promoting research into rare-phenomena at KERNEL.

2. Term of employment: Tenured position (mandatory retirement age of 65)
3. Workplace: Mozumi Office at Tohoku University (408, Kamimachi, Higashimozumi, Kamioka-cho, Hida-shi, Gifu, Japan)
4. Job description:
(i) maintain and improve the operation of the underground facilities at KERNEL.
(ii) also promote the development of KamLAND and conduct pilot experiments incorporating advanced technologies of the frontier research into extremely rare-phenomena in order to explore the next core project.
(iii) contribute to the steering of RCNS and the education of students assigned to RCNS.
5. Start of the term: as early as possible after the decision.
6. Salary: following the rule of the Tohoku University standards.
7. Applicant requirements: Ph.D., an equivalent qualification.
