Drake International has an exciting opportunity for Personal Support Workers (PSW) at a healthcare facility in Athens, Ontario . Our client’s facility is a major development intended to support an age-friendly community where seniors can age in a place as their health needs evolve and receive quality care in a world class facility.
As a PSW you will assist residents with behaviours associated with dementia, delirium, mental health distress, addictions, or other neurological conditions. Working in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team the PSW contributes to the quality of life for residents by participating in the assessment; direct care and support and assisting the long-term care home to include effective strategies into the resident’s care plan. will be part of an interdisciplinary team providing direct care and intervention.
What You Do - Assist and promote the optimum physical, social and emotional well-being of each resident.
- Participate in measure to maintain an environment which promotes the comfort, dignity and safety of residents.
- Act as a team member through collaboration, respect, and effective communication.
- Contribute to the delivery of non-pharmacological or psycho-social behavioural care approaches in a collaborative environment.
- Follow the resident’s care plan observing and reporting any resident substantial findings and/or changes and communicates any incidents, accidents or unusual occurrences to the RPN/RN.
- Implement best practices as part of the interdisciplinary team related to dementia, delirium, and mental health issues, including the effect on the resident, family member, and caregiver within the PSW scope of practice.
- Practice proper hand hygiene techniques while performing all duties.
- Answer call bells and provides care to residents as required.
- Commitment to quality improvement and change initiatives
- Responsible for accurate and complete documentation on the resident records including daily flow sheets, restraint flow sheets and incidental charting in Nursing Progress notes.
- Effectively communicate within the team.
- Demonstrates personal growth and development.
- Completes mandatory education yearly as assigned.
- Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts.
- Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the Operational policies of the employer, Provincial Standards for Long Term Care, and Residents’ Bill of Rights.
Who Are You
- Personal Support Worker Certificate from an Accredited Ontario College or as per the Long-Term Care Homes Act, an approved HCA certification program from another province.
- Gentle Persuasion Approach (GPA) training is considered an asset, or willingness to obtain the training once hired.
- Two (2) years experience working in Long-Term Care, or other healthcare settings.
- Basic computer skills including ability to use electronic documentation systems (i.e. Point Click Care) and Microsoft Office Suite

- $50,173 - $58,519 annually inclusive of the $3 provincial wage enhancement.
- Incremental hourly increases based on performance and tenure
- Permanent full time employment of 37.5 hours per week.
- Shift work, days, evenings, and nights.

- Up to $5000 relocation allowance if more than 400 kilometers away and full-time hours.
