Job Description

Title:                                    Youth Mental Health Coordinator

Reports to:                         Youth Clinical Supervisor

Hours of Work:                 Monday through Friday 9:30 am – 6:00 pm

(May vary depending on programming)

Term Position:                  Full-time, as long as funding is secure

Location:                             Tansi Friendship Centre – 4729-51st Street, Chetwynd (Youth Learning Centre)

Wage:                                   $26.00 starting with a 3-month probationary period

The Youth Mental Health Coordinator is responsible for a wide variety of duties in support of the programming for youth ages 8-12 and in support of all other youth department staff at the TFCS. Duties include but are not limited to implementing stress management, life skills development, effective discipline, social skills and building self-esteem, seeking to address all areas of wellness including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Job Duties:

·         Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of all children

·         Support Tansi children and youth in addressing mental health issues that may include but are not limited to trauma, grief and loss, depression/anxiety, self-harm/suicide prevention services, and substance misuse

·         Provide support to youth with problem solving and conflict resolution

·         Plan and coordinate relevant mental health activities and workshops for children and youth on anger management, stress management, and understanding mental health for youth and parents

·         Maintain accurate and confidential records and daily statistics as required by funding agencies and ensure that all required documentation is up to date and complete

·         Provide communication and create partnerships with other agencies and community organizations’

·         Resource development: supporting Tansi children, youth and parents with appropriate mental health resources and materials

·         Connect children, youth and/or families to culturally relevant supports as requested

·         Ensure that children and youth are always supervised

·         Work closely with all other TFCS employees who require assistance with youth and family programming

·         Present a positive and professional image of the organization during all interactions with outside agencies, staff, board of directors and community members

·         Follow duty to report requirements as necessary

·         Maintain and model appropriate boundaries with youth

·         Participate in regular supervision and team meetings as required

·         To work as part of the Tansi Friendship Centre Team

·         Assist with any other programs as necessary as put on by the TFCS organization

·         Be familiar with all policies and procedures of the TFCS organization

·         Involvement in fundraising activities

·         Prepare a quarterly report for the board of directors

·         Attend all staff meetings and the Annual General Meeting

·         Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions

·         Assist with other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in a related human / social service-related field, Two years of recent related experience OR and equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Previous experience of working with First Nations communities is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with youth, families and outside agencies
  • Strong written, listening, and oral communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of relevant community resources, services and networks within Chetwynd is an asset
  • Must be proficient with computers and be able to navigate files, email, Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or direction, high degree of organization
  • A strong work ethic – reliable, punctual, and responsible
  • The ability to stay positive under pressure; support system and self-care strategies in place to maintain own well-being
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Valid BC Driver’s license
  • Enhanced Criminal Record Check
  • Valid standard First Aid and Level “C” CPR
  • Valid food safe or willing to obtain

Start Date: ASAP
