Health PEI was created in July 2010, marking a major step toward realizing a One Island Health System that provides Islanders with the right care, by the right provider, in the right place. Headquartered in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Health PEI is the single health authority responsible for the delivery of publicly-funded health services in Prince Edward Island, Canada. It operates hospitals, health centres, extended term care homes, addiction facilities and primary care sites among other facilities throughout the province while providing a wide variety of programs and services. The Health PEI Board of Directors governs the agency, is accountable to the Minister of Health and Wellness and works collectively on behalf of all Islanders to ensure the management and delivery of safe, quality health care.
As Health PEI continues to grow and establish a One Island Health System, they have set out several goals:
The Medical Director of Family Medicine & Focused Practice plays a crucial leadership role in advancing a key strategic priority for Health PEI and the provincial government – the full realization and operationalization of the Patent Medical Home model. Through leadership of a diverse team of physicians and integrated interprofessional care teams, and with a laser focus on recruitment and retention, the incumbent will play a central role as Health PEI looks to revolutionize the way primary care and family medicine is delivered across the island.
The incumbent will guide the department through strategic and operational growth, be familiar with a collaborative model of care and practice in a teaching environment. They will explore ensuring Patient Medical Homes are embedded in communities and maintain high-quality care and seamless integration with acute and community-based hospitals. They must also balance growth with the need to ensure that patient care standards remain uncompromised, streamline clinical processes and ensure that the quality of patient care remains high during periods of expansion.
The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a deep understanding of various points of care. They possess strong strategic and operational skills, with the ability to manage a growing department while maintaining a focus on high-quality patient care. You are adept at fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and supporting the development of care models. A visionary leader, you have proven experience balancing the demands of growth with the need for continuous improvement, ensuring clinical processes are optimized and patient outcomes remain at the forefront. You are a strong communicator, capable of navigating complex challenges and driving change in a dynamic healthcare. Additionally, you bring excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to problem solve, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
The healthcare system on PEI is robust, with access to excellent services, including family doctors and specialists. The Island's smaller size allows for timely care in a community-centered setting, where individuals are truly valued. Last year, Health PEI focused on expanding community care, and the adoption of innovative healthcare solutions to improve efficiency and service quality. They focused on enhancing patient-centered services and creating a healthy work environment for staff. Looking ahead, Health PEI aims to continue driving innovation, improving patient access to care, and optimizing healthcare resources to meet the growing demands of the island's population.
Prince Edward Island offers a truly unique opportunity for physicians seeking a meaningful and impactful medical career.
