Mechanical EngineerOur client, an innovative manufacturer of complex sensors and microscopy imaging systems and devices, is currently searching for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join them on a permanent full-time basis at their office in Richmond Hill.
The successful candidate will design, develop, and optimize mechanical systems for optical applications. The ideal candidate will have experience integrating optical components into mechanical assemblies, ensuring precision alignment, structural integrity, and thermal stability. This role requires close collaboration with optical, electrical, manufacturing and production teams to create high-performance products for industries such as Semiconductor, Flat Panel, Biomedical and Life Science.
Role and Responsibilities
- Design and develop opto-mechanical systems, including mounts, housings, and enclosures for optical components (lenses, mirrors, prisms, etc.).
- Perform thermal, structural, and dynamic analysis to ensure mechanical stability and performance under varying conditions.
- Work with optical engineers to optimize alignment and positioning of optical elements within mechanical assemblies.
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, 3D printing, etc.) for high-precision optical systems.
- Create detailed CAD models, drawings, and documentation using software such as Autodesk Inventor.
- Conduct tolerance analysis and ensure designs meet manufacturing and assembly requirements.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to source components and materials that meet design specifications.
- Participate in prototype development, assembly, and testing of opto-mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot design and manufacturing challenges and propose innovative solutions.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, ASME, etc.) and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in opto-mechanical design, precision engineering, or related areas.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and mechanical analysis tools (FEA, thermal simulation).
- Strong knowledge of optical component integration, kinematic mounts, and alignment techniques.
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal and precision assembly.
- Familiarity with optical system tolerancing.
- Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication and testing.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
