MASS SPECTROMETRY SPECIALIST

(Full-Time)

Location: Kitchener, ON, Canada

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mass Spectrometry Specialist to join our innovative team. This hands-on role requires extensive expertise in LC-MS techniques and operations to support our cutting-edge research and development initiatives.

Located at Catalyst137 - a world-class, start-up and enterprise hub – you will work with an array of experts who will provide mentorship and coaching as you support the largest privately-owned mass spectrometry lab in Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

LC-MS Operations & Method Development

• Operate, monitor, and maintain LC-MS systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment as needed.
• Work with various teams on method development for customer samples and R&D projects.
• Conduct research and method development aligned with company goals.
• Coordinate with service engineers for instrument maintenance and repairs.
• Other duties as required for the operation of the MS laboratories.

Quality Control & Data Management

• Ensure all developed methods and assays are accurate, reproducible, and robust.
• Prepare and load Quality Control samples and assess system performance.
• Review raw data to evaluate run performance and identify instrument issues.
• Maintain detailed laboratory records and documentation.
• Analyze, interpret, and visualize complex mass spectrometry data.

Documentation & Compliance

• Draft and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for MS workflows.
• Contribute to the documentation and accessibility of protocols and records.
• Maintain good instrument use, maintenance logs and quality assurance documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, or MSc with at least 3 to 5 years' post-degree experience in a protein chemistry-related field.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with Thermo-Fisher MS instruments.
• Proven expertise in protein and peptide LC-MS separation, data analysis, sequencing, and quantitative analysis.
• Strong background in LC-MS method development and optimization.
• Experience with sample preparation in a proteomics context.
• Proficiency with both Nano and high flow rate LC-MS systems.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work as a team and to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral/written communication skills.
