JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY: Loan Credit Specialists are responsible for reviewing, renewing, and monitoring Commercial, Private Banking and Community Banking loan applications for commercial and industrial (C&I), and commercial real estate loans in a centralized environment, for credits up to their assigned loan authority utilizing a judgmental credit analysis underwriting approach and may recommend approval terms and structures for loans that exceed assigned loan authority. This position also provides support to Relationship Managers, administrators, and document analysis center (DAC) relating to the communication of loan decisions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide loan decisions and/or credit recommendations based on a review of all underwriting criteria, including loan structure, collateral, interest rate, and fees within assigned loan authority. May recommend loan approval terms, conditions and structure that exceed assigned loan authority.
  • Responsible for reviewing financial statements, identifying project cash flow and income potential on information provided in loan application that renders an accurate global cash flow
  • Provide specific due diligence conditions required to approve loan including application of local knowledge of the commercial real estate market of the borrower
  • Evaluates all commercial loan requests, using a thorough knowledge of credit policy, guidelines and procedures.
  • Exhibits thorough knowledge of fair lending issues, HMDA, rules, and various regulations that directly impact the commercial lending areas.
  • Exhibits the ability to utilize judgmental commercial credit underwriting skills to render a decision within assigned loan authority.
  • Summarizes and adjudicates final credit decision, within credit authority, on a credit processing system, which will be monitored and reviewed by management.
  • Refers and recommends loans above approval limits to a more Senior Loan Credit Specialist or Team Leader.
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic production environment and meet unit productivity goals.
  • Responsible for making accurate decisions in granting loan requests within specified limits.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of credit scoring and risk management concepts.
  • Communicates effectively and interacts with all levels of management. Additionally, must be able to communicate with all Commercial/Community Bankers, Team Leaders and Segment Leadership and related departments.
  • Responsible for reviewing financial statements, identifying project cash flow and debt service obligations on information provided in loan application that renders an accurate global cash flow
  • Analyzes the financial condition of existing and prospective bank customers. Accurately reviews financial statements and tax returns submitted by applicants and is capable of evaluating a Borrower's ability to repay.
  • Aggressively seeks alternative means of financing or counter offers for all borrowers when it is determined that the original request cannot be accommodated. May be required to restructure, up-sell if appropriate or renegotiate terms of existing banking customers.
  • Mentor to Loan Credit Specialist I position.
  • Assist the document analysis center, if needed, with the following: due diligence or other loan conditions clarification, interpretation of relevance of due diligence exception items and/ or appraisal, survey and environmental assessments.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:
    • Bachelor's degree preferably in accounting, finance or economics required.
    • 2+ years of credit analysis, loan review, and/or related accounting experience preferably in the banking industry required.
    • Must be attentive to detail and possess excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; basic Excel and Word skills required.
    • Knowledge and familiarity with deposit and loan accounting systems is preferred.
    ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions
    • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
    • Ability to operate related equipment to perform the essential job functions
    • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions
    • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 10 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
