As a Legal Counsel your responsibilities will include:

  • Commercial
  • Advise on all agreements and documents involving the firm including those related to professional engagements, proposals, information technology, joint ventures, suppliers, etc.
  • Conduct legal due diligence, negotiate and prepare documentation for acquisitions and divestitures
  • Advise on and negotiate lease arrangements relating to offices across the country
  • Advise on advertising, marketing collateral, internet content and press releases
  • Regulatory
  • Advise on professional regulatory matters including those related to CPAB, PCAOB, and the various provincial Institutes of Chartered Professional Accountants as well as other oversight bodies for various designations
  • Monitor and provide advice on all laws and regulations affecting the firm e.g. limited market dealer registration, lobbyist registration, privacy, anti-spam, money-laundering
  • Perform various other duties as required
  • Claims and Litigation
  • Manage claims and litigation and negotiate settlements
  • Document production and management in the regulatory and litigation context

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a Legal Counsel? Like the colour purple? Great. Here's a few more boxes we’re also hoping you can tick:

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a leading law firm or an established in-house legal department
  • Interest in litigation management and commercial contracting
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work under pressure and to effectively manage priorities
  • Excellent organization and project management skills, including the ability to execute project plans, set timetables and monitor workflow and effectiveness
  • Proactive problem solver able to approach sophisticated issues from multiple angles
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships on multi-disciplinary teams
