We are currently seeking a Java Data API Engineer to join our team in Nashville, Tennessee (US-TN), United States (US).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable REST APIs using Java (primary) and Python (secondary).

  • Lead troubleshooting and debugging efforts for API-related issues, including request/response analysis and error resolution.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, with Groovy scripting as a plus.

  • Containerize applications using Docker and deploy to Kubernetes clusters, specifically Amazon EKS.

  • Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless deployment and monitoring of APIs.

  • Consult with internal teams on API security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data protection.

  • Support and maintain APIs running primarily on Linux-based systems (some exposure to Windows environments).

  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and performance tuning.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of API development standards and operational excellence.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in API engineering or backend development roles.

  • Strong proficiency in Java; working knowledge of Python.

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and deploying to Amazon EKS.

  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.

  • Familiarity with API security protocols and practices, especially in financial services.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and scripting (Groovy is a plus).

  • Strong debugging skills and ability to analyze complex request/response flows.

  • Comfortable working in Unix/Linux environments; some familiarity with Windows systems.

  • Exposure to AWS services and cloud-native development practices.

  • Deep understanding of secure systems related to money management, money movement, and customer identity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial services or banking environments, particularly at scale.

  • Familiarity with GraphQL (not required).

  • Prior experience consulting or mentoring within engineering teams.
