Job Description

Campus Location:  New Westminster

Regular / Term:   Regular Full Time

Closing Date: Open until filled with a first review of candidates on March 24, 2025

Position Summary

As an Instructional Designer with the Police Academy, you will play a vital role in equipping B.C. police officers with the training they need to serve their communities.

Reporting to the Program Manager – Curriculum, you will work with a dedicated team of curriculum specialists, logistics and administrative staff, police instructors, and subject matter experts (SMEs). Together, you will ensure that training is effective, up-to-date, consistent, and well-documented. Your expertise in instructional design and curriculum development will help create learning experiences that are engaging, accessible, and apply best practices for adult learning. Your work will support the delivery of courses that align with the strategic direction of the Institute and the Police Academy, as well as the standards set by the Policing and Security Branch (PSB), Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

As the ideal candidate: You are a lifelong learner who expects never to have it all figured out and sees that as one of the reasons you thrive as part of a team. You ask questions if you don’t understand and see asking for help when you need it as a sign of strength, not weakness. You come up with great insights and ideas to share but can park them and bring your best work to execute on someone else’s, even if you disagree, when that’s what the team needs. Whether you are creating, updating or evolving training; supporting an instructor; observing and documenting; or sitting in an office mapping curriculum—you can recognize the value of the work you contribute, and take pride in doing it to the best of your ability.

By joining the Police Academy, you will be part of a team that is not just committed to excellence in police training but makes it happen. Your contributions will have a lasting impact on officer preparedness and public safety, making a meaningful difference in communities across British Columbia.
