Job Description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a junior-to-mid level NMCI and RDT&E Helpdesk Technician to provide technical support services to hardware and software systems for Code 34 of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT), located in Middletown, RI . An ideal candidate will possess prior experience with the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) and/or Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) IT platforms, and with providing service desk-level technical support for related hardware and software assets.

Typical responsibilities include:
  • Provide technical support services for all Code 34 hardware and software packages in use at NUWCDIVNPT by interviewing customers, diagnosing and responding to a wide range of IT related issues, and escalating the issue to a higher support level if necessary.
  • Act as first responder and primary dispatch for all facets of IT services, including application support, hardware support, unclassified and classified networks, file server and print services, domain access, AIS Information Security, telephones, and government issued cellphones.
  • Submit Code 34 RDT&E DADMS software inventory updates to Code 10.
  • Provide Code 34 RDT&E software license maintenance, including the installation of software license keys provided by the Government for use on Code 34 RDT&E and NMCI systems.
  • Perform updates to the Code 34 SharePoint Online site pages.
  • Monitor the performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, recoverability of all system assets across NUWCDIVNPT Code 34 and any servers where Code 34 has a presence.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly backups of specified Code 34 RDT&E systems in accordance with the operating system native back-up tools in the individual operating systems.
Location: Full time onsite at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. 

Typical Physical Activity : Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. May also require physical activity including lifting/moving computer & server hardware assets, setting up workstations, laying network cable, and supporting other IT infrastructure activities.

Existing Secret Security Clearance Required : This position requires an existing DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate will already possess an Active or Interim Secret security clearance. A strongly qualified candidate with relevant NMCI/DoD experience but no current security clearance may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Qualified as a DOD 8140 Policy Cyber Workforce (CWF) Technical Support Specialist (411) Basic or Intermediate . To qualify, must possess at least one of the following:
    • Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or similar, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution.
    • OR, possess one or more of the following certifications. Proof of active/current certification must be provided prior to a job offer being extended:
      • CompTIA A+
      • CompTIA Network+
      • Certified Network Defender (CND)
      • CompTIA Security+
      • GIAC Foundational Cybersecurity Technologies (GFACT)
  • At least two (2) years of relevant professional experience with providing information technical support services at a helpdesk/service desk level, or similar.
    • An ideal candidate’s experience will have been obtained in a Navy/DoD/Federal environment.
  • Proficiency with common productivity software including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to interact with contractor, government, and active-duty military personnel.
