FURNITURE MANUFACTURING ASSISTANT Location Saskatoon, SK :
ROLE DESCRIPTION
As the Furniture Manufacturing Assistant for Unique Contract Interiors (UNCI), you are required to do a multitude of jobs and duties which are further outlined below. On top of these duties, you are required to carry a strong work ethic and positive personality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prep & Upholstery Department Key Responsibilities:
- Learn and assist the trade of upholstery. You would be required to learn how to foam prep the furniture products and upholster them.
- Booth and chair seats prep and upholstery are for sure mandatory to learn and would be taught to you by our experienced upholsterers.

- Building & Construction Department Key Responsibilities:
- Learn and assist how to build UNCI's furniture products. This mainly consists of custom restaurant booth work and some other millwork pieces.
- Work closely with UNCI's carpenter's to learn how to run the CNC machine and other power tools such as the table saw, miter saw, and routers.
- Learn how to laminate custom pieces.

- Sewing Department Key Responsibilities:
- As required learn how to make and cut patterns for sewing. This would pertain to restaurant booths, chairs, and barstools.
- As required, possibly learn to sew covers from our professional sewing team.

- Installation Department Key Responsibilities:
- Learn how to install UNCI's furniture products on site. This mainly pertains to restaurant booths, table tops, table bases, chairs, barstools, and roller blinds.
- As required travel to sites (across Canada) to do these installs.
- Learn how to properly load and off load a trailer full of fragile, custom furniture.
- Maintain and keep tools in orderly fashion so they are working and ready for next usage.
- Speak with contractors and clients on site. Must be able to represent our company well on site and work with other trades.
- Know or learn how to pull a smaller pull behind trailer.
- Handle pick up's and deliveries regarding our re-upholstery repair program.

- Other Key Responsibilities & Details:
- In this position, you must be available and willing to travel. Some of our installations are day trips only and others consist of overnight trips. UNCI will provide all of the company vehicles, food, and accommodations for these trips and pay is allotted for all travel time.
- Must be willing to learn new trades. Things like upholstery and carpentry skills are things that are mandatory to learn in this position as it is also required when on site doing installation.
- Having experience in carpentry, sewing, or upholstery is considered a major asset.
- Must carry a valid class 5 driver's license. If you have experience pulling a trailer, that is considered an asset.
- Must understand and know how to use basic power tools (i.e. drills, saws, routers).
- In this role, you are going to be doing a multitude of tasks and duties. Every day will be a little bit different so you must carry a great work ethic and be able to bring a positive attitude to work every day.
- Must be able to lift heavy loads, work in environments with dust and glues, and stand for periods at a time.
- Understanding layouts and shop drawings is considered an asset.

Tools and Equipment Used
Employee needs to be know how to use the following or willing to learn:
- Measuring Tape
- Various Power Tools (drills, saws, nail & staple guns, etc.)
- Various Hand Tools (hammers, screw drivers, pliers, etc.)
- CNC Machine
- Laminations
- Routers
- Company Owned Vehicles & Trailers (for transportation)Employee needs to meet occupational health and safety regulations and wear the appropriate safety equipment while on site (as per site rules) and take relevant training:

Qualifications Required
- Grade 12
- Experience in carpentry considered an asset.
- Knowledge with commercial furniture would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge in the use of related tools needed (as listed above).
- Ability to lift heavy material by yourself up to 75 lbs. (+/-)
- Ability to work in a condition containing saw dusts, dirt, glues, loud noises and dangerous tools.
- Ability to work in a high paced atmosphere which includes a lot of standing, bending, and lifting.
- Must be able to work in different weather temperatures.
- Must be able to write, speak, and read English.
- Ability to understand shop drawings and layouts is considered an asset.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
