DESCRIPTION

The Cluster Leader is responsible for one or more Amazon Data Centers within a particular region. It is a Data Center Operations senior manager role and has managerial responsibility for safety, security, availability, scaling, efficiency and cost. This position is located in Inzai in Chiba prefecture.

Key job responsibilities
- Hiring, managing and developing the operations team including data center operations managers, engineering operations managers, logistics operations managers and their teams
- Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, efficiency and cost
- Planning and executing the Data Center Operations component of new datacenter and Colocation (Colo) expansions
- Operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for Amazon datacenters to include preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and change management
- Safety, security, and availability incident response, incident management and incident resolution
- Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods and tools

A day in the life
You review key performance metrics and cluster dashboards, do one on one checks with direct reports to provide guidance and remove blockers, hold weekly team status and strategic planning meetings, and hold strategic work sessions on business planning, resource allocation, and process optimization. You attend executive leadership meetings to align on organizational objectives, stakeholder management meetings with design engineers, data center planning, construction and commissioning teams, and global program owners. You review and approve team deliverables and provide strategic direction. You focus time for strategic initiatives, budget management, and performance reviews.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of relevant operations management experience, including managing teams of 100-200 people and geographically distributed management teams
- Demonstrated track record in delivering complex projects and operating mission-critical teams/products
- Proven ability to hire, develop, and lead high-performing technical teams
- Strong analytical and communication skills, including written and verbal proficiency in English
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, create effective presentations, and drive data-based decisions
