Job Description

Under the direction of Dr. Ivan Wong, the Dalhousie Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine team is in search of an Athletic Therapist to perform the duties of a Clinical Research Assistant. Dr. Ivan Wong and his team are a group of researchers and administrative assistants who provide clinically backed evidence to support some of the biggest questions in orthopaedics. With a strong focus on shoulder instability, rotator cuff, and hip arthroscopy, Dalhousie Sports Medicine team has collectively published over 110 peer-review articles, manuscripts, and book chapters over the last decade in recognized orthopaedic journals.

As a Clinical Research Assistant your responsibilities are as follows:

Responsibilities

• Conducts orthopaedic testing in a clinical setting, including strength testing, range of motion testing, and performing special tests as needed, and report these findings to the attending physician.
• Taking clinical notes during patient consultations and follow up visits, and providing thorough notes regarding the status of the patient, the course of treatment and follow up steps in a timely manner
• Manages and performs data entry for patient outcome data across multiple retrospective and prospective studies which include patient demographics and surgical assessment test scores
• Contacts study subjects to book diagnostic/clinical tests, assessments, and appointments
• Develops and maintains filing systems for subject and study documentation
• Develops and maintains methods of tracking information through checklists, databases and spreadsheets
• Archives documentation related to study once it has closed and develops and maintains a method of retrieval from storage
• Contributes to surgical broadcast preparation, implementation, and debriefing.
• Contributes to research output depending on level of experience

Qualifications

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

• Post-secondary education (required) in a science-related field (preferred)
• Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C))
• Medical Terminology course an asset
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), organizational software's (Jira, Notion, etc.), and a high importance for a strong ability to manage multiple large sets of data and excel spreadsheets simultaneously.
• Strong communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to draft, format and edit office correspondence.
• Well-developed organizational, time management, and daily planning skills
• Ability to work well independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Two years related experience (preferred)
• Previous experience in a health care/research setting is an asset
