Job Summary

The Clinical Assistant is a key member of the healthcare team, providing essential clinical and administrative support to physicians and other medical staff to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the healthcare clinic. Operating within the scope of their training and in compliance with Ontario's healthcare regulations, Clinical Assistants contribute to patient care by preparing patients for assessments, performing routine medical tasks, and supporting documentation and communication processes.

This role requires a compassionate, detail-oriented individual who can manage a variety of responsibilities in a dynamic, patient-focused environment. The Clinical Assistant must be capable of maintaining confidentiality, displaying empathy, and adapting quickly to changing clinical priorities. As the first point of contact for many patients, they play a vital role in creating a welcoming, organized, and responsive care experience.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Prepare patients for examination, including taking vital signs, medical history, and height/weight measurements

  • Assist physicians during examinations and minor procedures

  • Collect and label specimens for laboratory analysis

  • Administer injections, immunizations, or medications as directed (if certified)

  • Ensure exam rooms are sanitized and stocked with medical supplies

  • Document patient interactions in electronic medical records (EMRs)

Administrative Duties:

  • Schedule patient appointments and manage calendars

  • Promote Allied Health services in the Clinic

  • Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries

  • Maintain accurate patient records and update charts as needed

  • Process billing information and insurance claims 

  • Facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers

Qualifications

Education & Certification:

  • Completion of a recognized Clinical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant program

  • CPR and First Aid certification (required)

Experience:

  • 1–2 years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred

  • Experience with electronic medical record systems (e.g., TELUS)

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities

  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and professionalism
