Job Description

Purpose Of Position

To provide service, training and establish a preventative maintenance program for patient-applied medical devices.

Duties

  • Perform medical equipment pre-acceptance checks and incoming inspections.
  • Test electro-medical equipment for performance assurance and ensure proper functioning.
  • Provide clinical training of electro-medical equipment to staff, as required.
  • Evaluate the capabilities of electro-medical equipment and provide advice as to whether new equipment should be purchased.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and quality assurance procedures on medical equipment to ensure proper functionality and patient safety.
  • Troubleshoot and repair applied medical equipment.
  • Manage the life cycle of medical equipment and maintain service records utilizing CMMS software.
  • Liaise with manufacturers and vendors for equipment servicing and spare part information.
  • Function as a professional role model demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, policy and legislative requirements and implement improvements/changes as appropriate.
  • Comply with organizational policies, procedures and standards.
  • Participate in on call rotation to provide support services after hours and on weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Biomedical Engineering program or equivalent education and experience – Recent graduates are encouraged to apply

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
  • Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
  • Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
  • Behaviour consistent with Hospital Mission, Values and Standards of Performance.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of Relevant CSA and IEC standards.
  • Knowledge of evidence based treatment modalities
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation – Health Canada requirements for medical device licensing.
